Back Issue Yarn #18

Yarn Magazine

Yarn magazine began via a group of knitters at a pub in Adelaide, SA. As Barbara Coddington, the original editor said, “As knitters and crafters we like to have a yarn as much as we like to play with the stuff, so making a magazine that is smart and fun to read and explore throughout – not just in the patterns section – was essential. We think of it as ‘craft journalism’, rather than simply pretty things to make (although that is important too).”

Yarn is filled with many different techniques of playing with yarns and fibres, as well as instructional, inspirational and just plain fun articles.

You will find knitting, crochet, felting, spinning, weaving, travel, and so much more in this magazine.

Having begun in Adelaide, Yarn is still an Australian magazine, created here in Australia, and read worldwide.

Description

Published  June 2010, this wonderful magazine is published each March, June, September and December.

Liz has written an extensive article on knitwear grading and sizing. It is well explained and illustrated, with tables, diagrams and measurements to take the guesswork out of sizing and pattern writing. Part 2 of the article appears in issue #20, and looks at the trickier aspects of knitwear grading, such as sleeve treatments, flares, collars, etc. This is essential reading for all budding knitwear designers.

Jennie brings us Part 2 of Good Beginnings, explaining the what, where, when and how of using different cast on methods; while Yarn 4 Kids shows you how to hand paint knitted goodies (in particular, cables). The inspiration for this technique came after watching the last Prada fashion parade, where the knitwear featured cables in different colours, running up the back of leggings and stockings.
